Hello! My name is Avnish, and I am proud to be a general dentist at Sherwood Dental. I joined this incredible team in 2001 after graduating from the University of Alberta with my Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degrees. Growing up in Sherwood Park, my family and I have been patients of the clinic since 1980! During university, I decided I wanted to study dentistry and eventually was fortunate enough to join the Sherwood Dental team.
One of the greatest things about being at Sherwood Dental is working with such a diverse and talented team. They are all so caring and devoted to their patients, team members, and their community. After growing up in Sherwood Park, it is an honour for me to be able to treat and see so many familiar faces in the office. I am so fortunate to have such kind people around me each and every day. I am forever grateful.
I have been happily married to my wife Danielle since 2000. We have three amazing daughters and two dogs. This keeps me super busy when I’m not at the office. I love my family very much and I am thankful they support and tolerate me.
In my spare time, I like to stay involved in community events as much as possible. I also enjoy going to the gym, playing squash, golfing, reading biographies, acrylic and oil painting and some good old fashioned yoga when I need to relax. I love music, and sometimes I just like to listen to my old vinyl albums or my latest playlist with a nice cup of coffee.
My passion for dentistry lies in the fact that I believe it is a career that offers a perfect blend of science-based learning, artistic vision, and manual dexterity. I’ve always enjoyed the medical sciences and working with my hands. As such, dentistry has offered me a career that I am truly passionate about.
I have always continued to learn as much as possible through my continuing educational pursuits in dentistry. I believe knowledge is endless and constant improvement is something that I always strive for.
More About Me:
- Where is your favourite place to vacation?
My favourite place to travel to is Kelowna, BC. My family and I take a yearly trip here and it is always something we look forward to doing together.
- What is the last book you read?
The last book I read was the memoir by Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
- How would your friends describe you?
I think my friends would describe me as someone that listens more than I talk. And that I care deeply about my friends, family, coworkers, and patients. They may also say that I tend to get a bit competitive and maybe a bit prone to exaggeration. Ultimately, I would hope they would say I was a good friend who was loyal and always tries to be of value to people and society.
